Water water everywhere

Our first full day in Almaty, Kazakhstan and my first impressions are of a clean city with very wide tree lined streets and lots of water features (within a short radius of our apartment building I came across at least a dozen fountains). Lots of Soviet era crumbling apartment blocks, intersperced with modern ones and lots of construction.
