This is an alder tree lining the track, along with several others and oaks, near the start of our walk this morning. The alder's trunk was very swirly, reminiscent of coiled intestines? 

It was just Fi, husband Rich and myself, and only five miles because of Rich's hip/back soreness. Apart from the  nettles, brambles and one barbed wire crossing it was a lovely walk!
