Is It Scenic?
It was the best question I heard all summer, uttered by a man about to enter Rocky Mountain National Park for the first time. As I listened to the desk ranger explain that oh, yes, Trail Ridge Road is very scenic, I just smiled. The gentleman would soon know what I knew: the road traverses some of the grandest scenery on earth.
Today was my last trip into the park; tomorrow I head east. I had hoped to send you a blue sky, but what the heck: look at this storm gathering just beyond Hayden Spire. Colorado has had the wettest summer since 1872 and the coldest July since 1925. It was a balmy 49 when I snapped this picture.
Tomorrow I'll go places I've never been before, so while I'm sad to leave Rocky, I'm eager to see what lies ahead.
