52

Fifty two years ago today, I married my best friend. I think she married hers that day too. In the words of the Grateful Dead’s “Uncle John’s Band,” “Whoa-oh, what I want to know, where does the time go?” What a long, great trip it’s been.

I know with yesterday’s blip, it sounded like I was giving up on writing poetry. No way I am doing that. So here’s today’s effort.

Thoughts On 52

It’s actually been 56, but who’s counting?
Those years sound like a long time,
but it’s only been the blink of an eye.

All the roads we have traveled,
all the songs we have heard,
all the laughs and tears we have shared,
all of the days in the garden working,
but not really working.

Loving.

Our bodies ache, break,
slow down, break down,
but at times we find those kids we once were.

We’ll always have those kids,
no matter how many years.

Happy anniversary.
I love you.
