Ageing

As one approaches the age of 70, one’s driving licence expires and one has to apply for a 3 year license. The aim, primarily, is to check your eyesight is still OK. One does this by ticking a box confirming one has had one’s eyes tested recently.

As I get my eyes tested regularly it was no problem for me but the only safeguard seems to be honesty and the penalty for making a false declaration.

In any event, the process online was very easy (once I used my mobile phone: on the laptop the system kept throwing me out). And within 4 or 5 days the new licence arrived.

I have waited until the new licence came before cutting up the old one which now has to be sent back

Otherwise a very humid day and late afternoon a torrential thundeclump of rain. On Sunday on Broadcasting House on Radio 4, the “slow radio” section played rain falling in Henley. It sounded like a shower compared to what we had drumming off the roof. At least no need to water the garden. In fact, I’ll need to empty the containers!
