Creeping Thistle with hoverfly

I was working a short shift at one of the libraries today and noticed this wildflower as I got back to my car at 2pm. It was raining when I went in at 10am, sunny and humid when I came out and now at 5pm, it’s pouring with rain again. 
Having checked several sources, I am pretty sure this plant is Creeping Thistle (Cirsium arvense) and I’m amazed that I have never heard of it before.
