Vincent's House in Arles
Back on Vincent Van Gogh's footsteps. Today's blip shows where Van Gogh's house used to be ('The Yellow House'). But if you look closely at the original painting : The Yellow House, you will notice that the tall building in the background is still there.
Van Gogh arrived to Arles accidentally by train on his way from Paris to Marseilles. Originally, his intention was to take a ship in Marseilles and sail away to Japan. He wanted to experience the light and the colors he had seen in the Japanese painting of the time. But when he arrived in Arles, he found that the light and the colors he was looking for were there! So he decided to stop here instead on going on to Japan.
