Bean Structure

We took Spike up to the meadow this morning, avoiding the frog pond even though it doesn't appear to have any water in it. He came home with ears full of stickers which took awhile to comb out. They're tiny and nasty to get out and I always manage to transfer tiny barbs from them into my fingers where they lodge forever because they are almost invisible. It's impossible to get them out with tweezers but sometimes sticky tape will pull them out.

We went to the Urban Garden store in hopes of finding a vase for the fabulous flower arrangements we get at the farmers' market. Alas, it is closed on Sunday, so we came home. John retrieved yesterday's mail which included a quote for our fire insurance from the California Fair Plan, the coverage of last resort for those of us living in designated fire zones. It is heart-stoppingly expensive. Once five years have elapsed since the fire we may be eligible for more conventional coverage. It will still be expensive, but at least we can find a local broker since the current one is in Los Angeles and doesn't even have a phone number.

It's been a pleasant day. I've posted a picture of John's bean plant support structure which he finished planting up this afternoon. I did some long postponed domestic chores...washed all the bedding and the towels and cleaned the oven (it's self-cleaning, but still has to be wiped out) and the microwave. I've finished all the 10" quilt blocks and have now done three or four 8' ones. They do get more fiddly as they get smaller and I spent quite a bit of time making a grid out of one inch squares. Precision, not my strong suit, is imperative.

Now the sun is over the yardarm as my dad used to say and we are going to sit on the porch with a glass of wine, followed by a dinner of salads and the Tour.
