Lots of water

As forecasted, we had a lot of rain this evening. It started as I dropped of Inge in Groningen and before I returned home, there was already so much water on the road that it became difficult to drive. As I got close to home, Nienke called and said the bathroom and toilet were flooding and water was running into the bathroom. As soon as I got home, we checked all the windows and there was water inside in some rooms. Then I turned my attention to the bathroom, where the water was almost running into the hallway. Just as we were trying to come up with a way to prevent the wooden floor in the hallway from getting wet, the rain had become a lot less and the water started receding.

In the room where there used to be a shower long ago, water had also come up through the sink. It brought up some stuff that usually goes down the toilet and I think that’s all the detail you will need. After making sure no more water was getting in there, I turned my attention to our shed, where a manhole cover near the door was clogged and water started running into the shed. I quickly got out our submersible pump, attached a hose and got that running. Once the water was gone, I cleaned the manhole and that should be the end of that.

Back inside, I cleaned up the mess with help from Martine, who had returned home from a visit to relatives in Hilversum.

Now I’m really tired, but I will take a shower before getting to bed…
