Cardboard Boat Race

Another fun day - in spite of the weather.
Bideford, a town close to Barnstaple, held a Cardboard Boat Race today.  The boats are inspected to ensure no 'cheating' with plastic bits, bitumen to waterproof etc....and then they are launched in waves- single rowers, two rowers, more than two etc per boat and then teens..... There were several heats and then the survivors who wished to, did a final run. The shark, top left in main was way ahead of all the others and stormed home in both its races!  There were many amusing situations where the rowers were left languishing in the cold river as their craft slowly sank. 
The rains fell and we endured it until just before the end when we packed up, put our sodden chairs back in the car and came back to just watch the final race before heading off to find somewhere warm to dry out and enjoy a late snack lunch.
