Gold medals awarded 28 years later

Today we went to see the athletics at the London Stadium and the 4 x 400 relay team were awarded gold medals, by Seb Coe. They had won silver in 1997 at the Olympics in Athens behind the USA. One of the Americans was disqualified because of doping in 2008 but it has taken this long for the medals to actually be awarded. It was a nice little ceremony…they played some Greek music , presented the medals and then everyone stood for God Save the King like at the Olympic medal ceremonies. See extra….The athletes were Roger Black, Ewen Thomas, Jamie Baulch, Mark Richardson and Mark Hylton.

We had a nightmare journey getting to Stratford. Got wet in heavy rain on way to station, train stopped after three stations and we were told that points problems at Waterloo meant no trains could go there on any platform and we would be stopped for 30 minutes or more. We then took a bus to South Wimbledon got the northern line to London Bridge and Jubilee to Stratford. My daughter and family had gone a different route about half an hour earlier and were OK.

A nice athletics meeting and we had a good view. The rain had stopped and eventually there were blue skies and sun. After we went to Wahacca in Stratford as I had booked a table. A very nice meal with a great children’s menu. I could not believe the number of people there at restaurants or the fact that there was a queue of at least 30 people outside Wahacca the whole time we were there….so glad I booked!
Trains home were fine but a tiring day.
