Like a Ploughed Field
TUESDAY
Quite a bit of rain fell overnight, but by morning the skies had cleared, and I managed to get a bit of gardening done.
This afternoon, I headed over to Kinmel Bay for today’s away match. Unfortunately, the green there left much to be desired—uneven grass, ruts, bare patches, and a mix of green and brown made for tricky playing conditions and a complete contrast to my practice session yesterday.
Playing at number six, I experienced all four seasons in one game: it started in warm sunshine, shifted to a downpour (necessitating a waterproof jacket), and finished in sunshine again and back to just a t-shirt. Not ideal for my style of play, and I suffered another defeat, 17–21.
The team as a whole didn’t quite meet our usual standard. Only four winners out of ten and we narrowly lost the aggregate by just 2 points.
