Surprise sunflowers

We spent some time carefully germinating a selection of sunflower seeds from a variety pack, waiting till they were well established before planting outside along the garden wall.
Meanwhile, we had pulled out a fuschia bush which had become overrun with a mad weed. Not wanting to risk the weed coming back, nothing else was planted in it's place, but bark chips were put down. The bird table is just behind this, and we had been feeding them wild sunflower seeds. Some weeks later, I noticed a lot, an awful lot of sunflowers popping through the bark chips.
So now we have our own mini sunflower field. Without even trying.
