Reunion in York
Helen, Sarah and I have worked out that the last time that the three of us were together was over nine years ago. On that occasion we gathered to support Sarah's husband Ray when he ran the 2016 Manchester marathon. Since then I have seen Helen a couple of times - she attended the launch of the Diary of the war podcast series in Malvern in 2022 and came to Edinburgh to help celebrate my 60th birthday in 2023 - but neither of us have seen Sarah in this time. Our reunion in York today was thus long overdue.
We all travelled to York by train: I from Edinburgh, Helen from Cardiff, and Sarah from Harrogate where she, her sister Rachel, and two friends Sue and Hilary are all on holiday together. Christine, a family friend of the sisters who lives in York, also joined us.
We all gathered first for a long lunch and much chat in a Polish restaurant. Then Helen and I checked into our accommodation with the two sisters and Christine in tow. Not long afterwards Rachel and Christine left the three of us to reminisce at length about our undergraduate days at the University of Birmingham. Sarah and Helen then declared that they fancied cocktails, so the three of us popped out to a bar for a couple of drinks before Sarah caught her train back to Harrogate.
By now Helen and I were feeling hungry again, so we shared a pizza in PizzaExpress. Next we took a little wander through the city. We were delighted to come across Tommy the Minster cat right next to York Minster. He really is a very handsome Bengal cat (extra).
Exercise today: walking (12,234 steps).
