In a Haze

I have been remiss in my blips. We’re visiting friends in Utah.

Vicki and Betty are good friends of ours. Vicki and I met in Taiwan in 1979, back in a previous life when we were companions serving missions for the Mormon church. (Yeah, I know, it was lifetime ago). Since our missions, we both took our different paths, and life brought us back together years later only to discover we have both since left the church, came out of the dark and dusty closet and found our forever companions.

Betty and Vicki have been together for over 35 years. Betty, unfortunately, suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Such a horrible disease, she is able to stay in her home because of Vicki’s care and love. But, it is hard and takes its toll. We visit once or twice a year and try to help out. This visit I’m installing cameras to monitor doors to the outside, a new tv with ONE remote, boosting their Wi-Fi with a google mesh system, setting up a new printer and getting rid of a very old and unsecured computer. In between technical support we’ll help with projects and take over a few farm chores for a week or so.

My photo is of smoke from my grill going up into the sun. Not at all related to my post. I suppose there’s a metaphor in there somewhere. Maybe the haze of a mind lost to Alzheimer’s. It is delightful visiting and helping friends, but hard at the same time, not knowing how much longer we will have with Betty.
