Bologna - Day 3

Escaped from the heat of Bologna, catching the train to neighbouring Modena which was.... equally hot.

Yet another picture postcard Italian town to amble around though, with "porticos" covering the pavements like Bologna - clever folk they were, creating them for shelter from both the sun of the summer and rain / snow at other times of year. Stopped for a leisurely (Parma) ham sandwich at a pavement cafe (recently voted the best in Italy, so good enough for us). Stumbled across the indoor market so snaffled up a bottle of the local balsamic vinegar (it's only the real deal if made in Modena), and some of the fizzy red Lambrusco which we had on our first night.

Back on the train to freshen up in the "easyjet suite", before hitting the town again - this time another osteria with tables set up in the square. The waitresses didn't speak a word of English, and my Italian consists of "birra" and not much else, so I took pot luck, picked a set menu, and ended up with a feast of cold meats for starter, ragu for main, and panna cotta for pud. De-lish.
