Stavanger #4
This was the sight I saw when I opened the hotel bedroom curtains this morning. This gigantic cruise liner was reversing into the harbour. There had been cruise ships of various sizes in the harbour each morning of our weekend break but this was by far the biggest.
Iona has the capacity for 5000 passengers who disembark and are bussed to various places around the local area or visit places of interest in the city. It must be good for local businesses but there will be downsides too.
The passengers could stay on board and see many of the tourist attractions without leaving the ship. It is moored alongside the wooden houses of the old town and while the ship is there I think the locals will keep their curtains tightly closed.
We had time this morning for a final walk so scaled the heights to get far from the madding crowd and see some different views of this very attractive city. Along the way we saw some more NuArt displays and one was written large on a wall (see extras). There are no spaces or punctuation marks which makes it a challenge to read so I hope this helps …
“I want love to grab a hold of me and bite me, walk right up and fight me, leave me dying on the ground”
One or two other extras include showing more of this very interesting and attractive city. We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We booked at the last minute having waited for a weather forecast that promised a few sunny days in a row. It has been almost a year of waiting!
We timed it perfectly as the first rain fell this afternoon just after we had arrived at the airport … a short-lived thunderstorm!
I shall endeavour to catch up with folks over the next few days. Thanks to those of you who have commented along the way, your interest is very much appreciated.
