Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Newburgh lifeboat station

In 1828, Newburgh became the first port in Scotland to have a Lifeboat Station, provided by the Shipwreck Institution. The RNLI, as the Institution was to become, based a lifeboat in Newburgh until 1961, when it was moved North, to Peterhead.
Since then the boathouse has, amongst other things been used to store equipment for fishing. But sadly it is now in great disrepair. However, plans are well advanced to raise money to repair the building and to put it to good use, possibly as a local museum.
