Staffield

All of seven houses yet it used to have its own pub (the two houses with white doors) called the Joiners Arms and had its own cricket pitch on the green just in front of Staffield. There is now and has been, for a long time, a road running just in front of the houses. About 130 yrs ago it would have been a much busier place - The Joiners Arms would have been host to many of the workers at the nearby Staffield Hall. Cricket was regularly played (and still is although at Kirkoswald - but it's still called the Staffield Cricket Club) and there was a thriving smithy on the right of the picture. Still there but no longer thriving. There are still signs of the old road to KO which ran centrally through the Parkland.
