A Day Lily Quartet
The Day Lilies are especially beautiful this year. These are four beautiful faces that are playing on the garden stage right now. I can't imagine a garden without Day Lilies. They are so reliable and don't mind the heat which will be with us again on Tuesday. When I first bought my little farmhouse, 90-degree days happened once or twice a summer. Now it is once or twice a week. The great American writer, Henry David Thoreau, recorded natural events in his journals and those writings are now being used by climate scientists. The average date of spring flowering is now 11 days earlier than it was in Thoreau's time. And the sad thing is, so many don't even recognize the crisis we are in. Sigh....
