Hot Run

FRIDAY

Feeling the need for some exercise, I headed out for an early morning run in an attempt to beat the heat. By 9:00 a.m., the temperature was already in the 20s°C, and I soon found myself sticking to the shady sides of the lanes.

I followed an old route—Tremeirchion → Rhuallt → Waen → Tremeirchion—and took it steady, completing the 8.7 km loop in just under an hour.

This afternoon, we played a cup match against Penrhyn New Hall at Meliden, a neutral bowling green (see extra). Penrhyn is a new team and had been given a +30 point handicap, so we knew we were in for a difficult time.

The host club kindly provided free ice-cold drinks and biscuits—a welcome treat in the 30+°C heat. Unfortunately, the bowling green was less accommodating. It had reportedly been damaged in 2024 by chemical weedkiller/ fertiliser and still hasn’t properly recovered. Compared to our own green, it felt more like bowling on a ploughed field.

I lost my own game 14–21, and we ended up losing the match overall—knocked out of the competition.
