Hidden gem

With DDW challenge word of Hidden, and a random U word popping up as Unsubtle (though I did wonder if that word actually exists), I realised a blip that represented contrast was called for.

I was reminded of a field trip in South Wales in my distant youth when we hacked at some rough brown rocks, only to discover that hidden inside was a plethora of crystals (quartz presumably) that were far from subtle as their bright orange colour sang out, and multidirectional surfaces glistened in the sunshine. It has been around wherever I have lived in the 40 years since, gradually losing a little of itself each time it was touched.
