A WALK WITH MOM
Canada geese typically molt their flight feathers during mid-June to late July. This annual molt is a period when they shed all their primary and secondary flight feathers at once, making them flightless for about a month while new feathers grow in. They usually resume flying by August. During this time period, geese often congregate near safe, reliable water sources where they can rest and feed and escape land based predators. Local grass is a favorite food source and they do a pretty good job of mowing the lawn. They are most vulnerable to predators during the molt due to their inability to fly.

This shot was made out the car window in a local small city as this goose was accompanying three young, rapidly growing goslings along the grass on the Aurora Urgent Care property.

They don't fly away when approached...they cant! They will hisss at you and become aggressive if you get too close to the goslings. The parents can be formidable. There are several hundred of them just taking their time crossing the roadways from one grass patch to another. Most drivers are patient and allow them the time they need to cross the road.
~
Why did the goose cross the road? Because that's where the best grass is...obviously!
