Brave face
The start of a two day team meeting today.
I arrived nice and early as we weren't due to start until 1pm to allow people to travel.
I got a phone call from our head of HR, I answered but couldn't hear anything. Within about 5-10 minutes I had an email from him inviting me to a meeting in London on Friday with him and our interim CEO to discuss my team's structure and my role within it. So, that's it, I've got the tap on the shoulder and will be told on Friday that my time is up.
My young padawan arrived shortly after and even though I wasn't supposed to share what was happening my relationship with her means I trust her implicitly. She was fuming and that means she'll leave the business as well now.
And then everyone else started to arrive and I had to put a brave face on, as if nothing was wrong.
My young padawan and I decided to play a game of table tennis whilst we waited for everyone else to arrive.
The meeting was good, there was a lot of energy in the room.
Checked in to our hotel, it was clear that the room hadn't been cleaned. So I had to complain and change rooms.
The hotel wasn't far from a folly, so I asked my young padawan if she wanted to go for a walk. We had a good chat about the situation. I've told her not to do anything rash, she's just got married and has a mortgage, she has to think of herself and not worry about me. If it is as I suspect on Friday, the hardest part will be saying goodbye to her.
When we got back to the hotel, we bought a drink and she started to play the piano in the bar. She is very talented and it was beautiful.
The evening meal in the village pub was good, although service was dreadful. Some of them team decided to stay out and party into the early hours, I just wanted to go to bed.
Today I am thankful for:
1. The support of my young padawan
