I spent most of the day at my mother’s house; first delivering groceries, then sharing lunch with the ladies, and helping with coffee and cake for us and my mother’s guests.

For my memory book, I had contacted some of her former bosses, and one of them, Herr A, not only responded but also wished to visit her. Our mutual friend Isa kindly volunteered to drive him (he is 83, and a little frail himself).

My mother didn’t recognize him of course, but she did remember his name and enjoyed hearing about his memories of her, her former colleagues, and the projects she worked on. She couldn’t answer most of his questions, but listened to his stories, and commented with “That’s right”, or “Indeed” - which doesn’t sound like much, but is more that she usually participates in a conversation.

Herr A is now invited for her birthday in September, and it will be lovely to see him again.

The blip is just a little valley close to the village of Bärstadt, where my mother lives. I liked the pattern of fields and trees, as well as the fluffy clouds.
