Only Fords & Horsepower, The Friars, Aylesford
Today was our usual Sunday food shop followed by our customary pint at The Horseshoes but instead of heading straight home we visited The Friars (our local Carmelite Priory) to frequent the Kent All Ford Show.
We've attended this show for the last few years and consider it bargain to to be able to view all the marvellous motoring machinery for the entrance fee of £5.00.
My main image was taken when I spotted this absolute doppelgänger for Uncle Albert from Only Fools & Horses (played by the sadly no longer with us, and utterly peerless, Buster Merryfield) - real name Mick - sitting rather nonchalantly on the running board of a Model T Ford and who seemed quite happy to have his portrait taken. He explained that his friend was actually the owner and passed us on to him (unfortunately we didn't catch his name). He told us it was a 1923 model that had been restored to resemble a vintage ambulance and explained the frankly head spinning manoeuvres required to control the speed, braking and steering.
My brother calls the first extra "Wears It Like A Pick-Up" as he couldn't quite believe his shot managed to capture the suitably attired onlooker wearing a t-shirt which appeared to be depicting exactly the same vehicle which was in front of him.
The second extra is my image of a a group of Ford Consuls (a consulate of Consuls?) all lined up in a neat row as they were rigorously inspected by the lady in the straw hat, with the third extra being my brother's almost abstract shot of two adjacent vehicles with the nearest to the camera sporting a glorious illustrated copy of an old Ordnance Survey of Great Britain map balanced against the steering wheel. The last two images are of two vehicular based mascots - with one considerably more glamorous than the other!
We had a great time viewing all of this automotive excellence and even managed to avoid a torrential downpour which arrived just after we'd left.
