Pétanque
Once the sun had gone down and some of the heat seeped out of the day, we decided to grab a bottle of wine and go out to the Pétanque courts(?) out on the square and try out the kit we'd bought in anticipation of coming to France.
It was still warm and very pleasant, and the square is well but not harshly lit, so we had ideal playing conditions.
After we'd played a few games and were sat down with a glass of wine, a car pulled up and four teenage lads spilled out with their boules.
Even as they were warming up, we could see they were in a different league - "Thank God we weren't still playing", the Minx murmured - but we enjoyed watching their game, seeing, perhaps, how it should be done.
