Filipendula Ulmaria or Meadowsweet.
This plant has many other local names but the common one will do just fine. It is quite prolific along the canal bank and certainly does provide a lovely scent in the warmer weather.
Interesting factoid. Meadowsweet is a source of Salicylic acid which is used to synthesise acetylsalicylic acid, better known as aspirin. So next time you sink a couple of aspirin for your headache, think of this lovely wild flower!
