Its the Way It Is

SPECULATION

for Poetry in The Park (First Sunday of the Month)

SPECULATION

Speculation
Is now an Occupation
Writ on every page
To enrage
The self righteous.

The rumour machine cogs turn
Fogs
Any notion of stability.

Jumping to Conclusions
Pumping the Intrusions
Embellishing the fascist rhetoric.

The mob mentality
Is alive and alert
Waiting in the wings
To rise and pervert.
Our shaky foundations.

Challenge this new status quo
Question the selected and filtered conversation
Or be swept away
In our unchallenged annihilation.

I wrote this poem in 1990 during the Gulf War. I have recently modified it for contemporary times.

As it is full of doom, I have tempered it by some softness, photographed on my pink net skirt beside some highly scented pink roses. (They are divine).

My second poem was by the wonderful Irish Poet Paula Meehan.

Weather a bit changeable in Dublin. When is this mythical heatwave gonna arrive here
