St Paul's Cathedral

My sister-in-law, Mum and I had another day in London today. First a walk up the hill to catch the tube to St Paul's. The inside of the Cathedral was interesting, although rather expensive to go in! I was also disappointed that no photography was allowed. The audio guides were very informative and we had a good tour round.
We climbed the 257 steps to the whispering gallery which gives a lovely view of the cathedral below. We then climbed a further 119 steps to the stone gallery, the outside viewing area you can see just below the dome. It provided a lovely view over London. Not to be defeated we then climbed the remaining 152 steps which took us to the outside golden gallery you can see just above the dome. What a view! 528 steps in total, Mum did really well! By the time we got back down we were all hot and exhausted and it was certainly time for lunch and a refreshing beer!
After lunch we walked part way over the millennium bridge to get a view of the river and the cathedral. Then we caught the tube to Westminster, walked part way over Westminster bridge to get a view of the London Eye and Houses of Parliament, then walked to and through St James' Park around the Serpentine to the Palace and on to Hyde Park Corner where we caught the tube home. Now time to relax in the garden and get ready for our third family game of cards.
