Lotus Elise S1

Is Lotus an acronym for ‘Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious’?

This entry features a 1/18 scale model virtually identical to the Elise we owned some 27 years ago. The colour of the model is the same as our real Elise. Norfolk Yellow.

In our particular case the acronym is not true. We drove about 60,000 miles in our Lotus which was a remarkably high mileage. Well, it was our work car.

It survived fording a flooded road and various other adventures.  It ended our road journey when a steering link fractured and it landed in a roadside ditch.

The car might have been repairable. However, the rescue truck pulled the car out of the ditch in a cackhanded manor and ensured that it became a write-off.

A couple of years later I saw the same car,, back on the road and looking fabulous. I understand that a Lotus trained mechanic bought the ‘wreck’ and rebuilt it.

I replaced it with a Porsche Boxster S which covered 157,000 miles of trouble free motoring throughout Scotland and mainland Europe.

The extra is an Elise key ring complete with a miniature Elise. Cute!
