Sheepy Slumbers

I was out early again (just after 7 a.m.) in the cool morning air.

This sheep (?lamb) was laying in the corner of a field next to the path..and when I stopped to take a photo it raised its head for me :-)

Got chatting to a farmer who was examining his barley field..he wasn’t very happy. Apparently the spring cereal crops are not doing well as it has been so dry since they were planted..the roots are not very deep and the plants aren’t getting enough moisture to swell the grain..also means they are more likely to fall over.

The winter sown crops are doing much better though…they had a good start with plenty of rain..the roots are much deeper and providing plenty of moisture for the plants.

Soon be harvesting at least some of them I reckon..
