Little Miss Giggles...
When I woke up this morning I was very relieved to find my hip pain much reduced. Just a dull ache. No need to cancel this little sunbeam's visit :-)
Ele, Jen, Nikki and Orla arrived just after 1.30pm. Orla was awake when they arrived, which is a first. She normally falls into a deep sleep on her way here.
She sat in her little seat while we had lunch, blethering away to herself. She is such a contented little thing and happy to amuse herself. Long may that continue!
After our lunch I gave Orla her milk. Holding a baby while they drink their milk is such a special experience. Orla is at the age (almost six months old) where she fully engages with you during the experience, stopping drinking to smile at me, her little hand on top of mine, snuggling in near the end as her tummy gets full and her eyes get heavy.
Alan and I never had this experience together as he was fed his milk via naso-gastric tube (he had no suck reflex) and had to be propped up in the corner of the sofa as both my hands were needed to fill the syringe and hold it aloft to allow gravity to get it down the tube and into his stomach, so I always enjoy feeding a wee one. I take my hat off to Nikki who's still pumping breast milk and not just enough for Orla, but enough to make donations to the breast milk bank for premature and sick babies who's mums can't provide their own.
So we had lovely afternoon catching up. Esme wasn't here as she is on holiday with her other gran, so it was a quieter visit than usual. Lola was keen to investigate Orla and Orla was completely un-phased by her. Hardly surprising as she comes from a dog owning home (Bonnie the greyhound) and Andrew and Nikki are looking after one of her mum's dogs, Grace the springer spaniel, who is a bit of a nutter. I was worried that Orla would get a fright and be scared when Lola barked (we had two deliveries and the door bell always gets a reaction from Lola) but she actually had a fit of giggles every time Lola did bark! So cute!
D was playing twilight golf with Adrian so I had lunch left overs for dinner then started list of actives / places to visit for our Skye friends who are visiting later this month. Dozed off whilst doing this, which I think it testament to my disturbed sleep due to hip pain last night.
1st July already!
