A Day Worth Recording

Cleaning up the brasswork for the door.

This is the cover plate for the door lock - from those days when enough care was taken with lock design and presentation to give you a nice piece of brass that fits over the steel lock itself, and covers up that mess of a mortice that you cut into the side of the door.

Also from the days when the maker was from only 50 miles away; at least a century ago I'd guess.  (Sadly, searches for C H Matthews of Wolverhampton haven't borne fruit).
