Never ever, no matter how much you want to, say the Orkneys. Orkney is a group of islands and the word is already plural. In the same way as you would never say the Britains or the New Zealands don't add an S.

It is perfectly normal to find a naked person covered in molasses and feathers bound in clingfilm to the mercat cross outside St Magnus Cathedral.
