Seabird City
Our day started with a visit to nearby Bempton Cliffs, and over half a million seabirds.
As well as nesting Razor bills, herring gulls, fulmar, kittiwakes, guillemots and puffins there is the largest mainland gannet colony in Britain. Over 1,630 pairs nest on the cliffs. All clinging to the cliff edge on ledges.
It is an amazing sight.
So many photos taken but I do love the stylish gannets and today there were so many youngsters all looking like bundles of fluffy cotton wool balls.
This little family were one of hundreds.
Today it was much cooler especially at the top of the cliffs where there was a cold north wind blowing. Needed our jackets. What a change from yesterday. We did see some people in shorts and T shirts looking frozen!
It was good to see one or two puffins. See extra collage. Always a great favourite with everyone.
Later in the afternoon we drove to Danes Dyke Nature Reserve near Flamborough.
It is ditch and embankment earthwork, which runs for 4 km across Flamborough Headland.
Believed to originally have been built in the Bronze Age.
Had a nice walk along the beach where we got chatting to a couple from Otley. Before we knew it an hour had passed by.
Now back at the cottage and getting ready to go to the local pub for a meal tonight.
Not sure about tomorrow’s weather!
