Hummingbird Hawk-Moth

It's been a lovely warm day and we've spent almost all of it the garden with the visiting family. Grandson A recently "gave" Grandson P a little clipboard laid our for recording insects he found, so we spent quite a bit of time finding ants, woodlice, butterflies etc. Whilst looking for bees on the lavender we were surprised to find this rather larger insect which was behaving like an insect version of a hummingbird, and we discovered that it's even named as such - a Hummingbird Hawk-Moth. It's the first time we can remember seeing one in the garden (or indeed anywhere else!) - seemingly they migrate to the UK from Southern Europe each year. It was a little easier to photograph than bees usually are as it stayed still for longer at a time but it still took me lots of goes to get a reasonably decent shot.
