Perplexing
This is my favorite of the four species of bumble bees that I have in my garden each summer - Bombus Perplexus. Its common names are Confusing or Perplexing bumblebee, both of which seem apt. It is covered in golden yellow fuzz except for the last few segments of the body which are fuzzy black. This, by my best guess, is a worker male. They are not a particularly common species so I am always happy when I spot one. And he is feasting on common milkweed which is currently in full bloom in my garden, lending a sweet, soft scent to the air.
We started the day with a nice FT chat with my parents. I can hardly believe that they will be here in a few short months which means we can have visits in person. I have not lived in the same location as my parents since I was about 19 years old so this will be a new experience for all of us - one I think we will enjoy very, very much.
After seeing mom and dad, Hubs went out to do some yard work and I went out to stalk things in the garden. It was hot out today but a breeze kept it bearable. Lots of hummingbirds buzzing around the garden and more little pollinators showing up now too.
Tomorrow I am meeting a friend for a walk and some birding/bugging before it gets too hot. She just lost her father so I think getting out in nature will be good for her. She and I knew each other very peripherally but became friends during covid when she, I and a couple of other women would head out to nature areas to walk.
Heading into a busy week and next week at this time I will be in São Paulo. Eeee!
xoxo
