Small skipper butterfly

This morning F and I went for a walk along the canal.  It was overcast but very hot and humid so we didn't walk as far as we normally do.

There's always been a large wild area along one of the footpaths that we've visited, great for insects and has spotted fly catchers.  Today when we got there, it had been mowed all but a small triangle of token wildness and the fields dug up for building.  Few insects and no fly catchers, such a shame.

Luckily there were plenty of insects along the canal edge and we saw this beautiful Small skipper butterfly,my first sighting of the year.

There's a photo of one of the canal bridges as an extra.
