The Puy de Dome

Here is Son #1 on the way up the lava dome that is the Puy de Dome. All these volcanoes and nowhere near the edge of a tectonic plate. Crazy science!

We walked up to the top early this morning. Hardly anyone, save a few paragliders were around on top and the view was stupendous. The rest of the family got the train back down as a treat so I ran down which was also a bit of a treat, of sorts.

It used to be a regular stage finish on the Tour de France but, sadly, no longer.

It has been said that the view of the Puy de Dome is better from a distance rather than the view you experience from the top. Both are pretty good, I would say.

Then followed an epic drive to a spot just North East of Paris. A 90 minute queue to get through toll booths put a bit of a dampener on events but all was good once we arrived at our destination, a former lace mill.
