Hot lips
I want to push back on the impression that all the flowers in our garden are big and blousy. We do have a bit of subtlety as well. Here's a case in point - salvia 'hot lips', procured from Highland Lilliums last week. We've found it a nice spot near another salvia in the front, in front of the burgeoning lavender bush which constantly needs keeping under control. Hopefully it will thrive there.
Mr A did a bit of gardening of the type that he likes. He moved a couple of plants to make space in one of the back beds for his new honeysuckle and space in the front for the new clematis. We are pleased with the quality of these new plants. I followed on afterwards and spread wood chipping around the new plants and the replants.
I was working today, although my level of productivity was not that high. I managed to read another ten pages of the book I need to read so that I can write a review. I engaged with the email mountain and in mid afternoon I had just the one online meeting.
Shortly after that, P arrived, so I called a halt to proceedings, so we could chat together.
We went down to Platform for supper, but unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. I don't think they can have kept the chef they had before. Both the standards that P and I had, and the venison haunch off the à la carte that Mr A had, were not the best. Anyway, it was the company (and the not having to cook and wash up) that mattered.
We came back to enjoy more red wine in the garden. It was fairly windy, but dry and pretty warm. It was fun to watch the sun go down, and we were still out there quite happily at 10.30pm.
During the course of the day, I discovered a slightly painful and puffy insect bite on my ankle. I need to keep an eye on that.
