Heat: it’s all relative.
We all managed to get up reasonably well today and, in what was rapidly becoming a heat dome, drove Jamie to the airport for his 9.25 flight back to Vancouver. Then managed to head back home, where we carried on with our days pretending that the moron-in-chief hadn’t just attacked Iran.
I must have missed a lot of what has been happening in the world of late, because in my mind, attacking targets in foreign countries is still illegal. I am obviously coming at it from a biased angle, though: in my mind, there is nothing Trump can do that makes sense. I know that Iran is a problematic country and I know that the ongoing issues with its nuclear programming have baffled better brains than mine. Can you trust the country to not produce nuclear weapons on its own? Probably not. Can you set up international monitoring systems to inspect and confirm? Not yet, obviously. Will it ever work? Who can tell? But the point I want to make is that bombing the hell out of a country, whatever its political outlook and however unpalatable its regime might be, is rarely likely to work. FFS. Have the Americans learned nothing, ever, from their historical meddling?
Ottawacker Jr. is starting to come down with something. My God, that age group are a Petri dish of disease. I’m seriously convinced he is working undercover for a pharmaceutical company, perhaps testing vaccines against the more malign diseases: hantavirus? Ebola? Who can tell with him?
It was great having a house guest, but as the temperatures ramped up, I was a little glad to just be with my nearest and dearest again. As I might have mentioned already, they are calling for temps of around 39 degrees – with a humidex of 49°. Now don’t get me wrong, I much prefer the warmth to the cold. I could probably even live quite happily with temperatures of 39°. 48 though… a little too warm.
With Ottawacker Jr. hacking and coughing in a brave attempt to convince me he is too sick to go to school tomorrow, I got a notification from the club that his goalkeeping and team practices had been cancelled. He looked happy, for once. Maybe he is sick.
