tradition
whilst strolling through the old town in Vaison la Romaine the other day we met a man making these lovely lavender wands. he told us that he had been making them for 42 years.
to make the classic version you start with 42 stems of lavender. tie a tight knot underneath the flowers creating a bouquet and then using ribbon or material weave the stems (two at a time) back over the lavender flowers. continue weaving until you have encased all the lavender and then tie in a tight knot or bow and trim the stalks.
from time to time squeeze the encased lavender to release more scent. it should last 5 or 6 years.
