A glorious sunset . . .
…………………… over Coronet Peak and the Whakatipu Basin this evening … taken out my bedroom doors.
We didn’t get the promised rain today although it looked dark blue and threatening out west. The gusty wind eased off too and there was even a little sunshine this afternoon.
I’ve finally finished reading the book ‘Furthest North’ by Fridtjof Nansen. He and his crew set out to prove that there’s a current running between Greenland & Spitsbergen, and allowed their ice strengthened ship, the ,Fram, to be jammed stuck in ice for months, to prove this belief. He was right too. He & Johansen also sledged & kayaked, over wintering on their way to Franz Josef Land. They reached 86°N. It’s an unbelievable tale.
I actually saw the ‘Fram’ in the Fram Museum in Oslo, quite a few years ago now. I now wish I’d read this book beforehand.
