Playing life by ear.

Life pricks.

On our way to the Titch's end of year concert in Rome, we had a quick meal at SIL and then rushed out to call a taxi to the event as our old car is not allowed in the area, so a taxi was our only choice.
After many calls, no taxi. Too many tourists
We waited until it was too late and gave up.
No concert
 No Titch playing his oboe.
It is said that you can only lose what you cling to, but how do I let go of all those years?
All those memories of this fantastic little kid who is growing into a young man, far from my eyes.
Do I give up on this one too?
Teardrop.
On a different note, I spent some time on google earth, searching and finding places where we have lived. Since Iran was the source of concern, I traced the house where we lived in Teheran.
So many vivid memories surfaced. I enjoyed living there so much. We moved there from the Persian gulf because I was ill  and remained until the trouble began, just before the shah was ousted.
I relived the memory of chasing a thief, who had just stolen my little son's cash box from a window sill. I can still see his crafty eyes as he put his arm between the metal window grill. My son, who was six at the time, howled in desperation. I ran out the from door and chased the guy all the way down to Pahlavi Avenue, (where Carter had recently passed in a motorcade).
A few weeks later, the police arrived with the culprit, asked me the content of the box and whether I could identify the thief. The box contained a children's watch with farm animals on the face, a crow feather and other precious stuff. I did not identify the guy.
One evening as we returned from the shops, just after closing time, I saw that along with the shopping we had two very large padlocks, evidently picked up by my boys, three and six years old at the time, from the ground in front of shop entrances, whose owners were just about to close up.......

When I was in hospital in Teheran, I was served tea in a glass, with sugar lumps and no spoon.  The trick, as I eventually learned, was to put the lumps in the side of the mouth and suck the tea through them.
Memories.
