Bundle kids into car at 4am for the Geneve - Calais drive, taking note of the fact that it is due to be one of the busiest days on French roads.

Arrive at the ferry port three hours early given that no sane French person would get up early for a traffic jam. They leave that for post-lunch obviously.

Kill the time by getting a wee bit lost and picnicking in a Calais park whose atmosphere and mood is dictated by a wartime concrete bunker at its centre.

Take one photo of the day through the toilet window on the ferry.

Return to car. Drive as far as conciousness and screaming kids allow.
