Solstice evening
It was too hot for J. She overheats rather easily these days, and by afternoon, when the patio is normally in shade, the sky was overcast, the atmosphere felt heavy and there was no hint of breeze. She stayed in her room, with her fan, and I spent only a little time on the patio, doing my evening German with J's little cat on my lap. The sun re-remerged later in the evening, and towards 8:30 a hefty badger trotted up our garden and rooted in the long grass; I stood still and watched until it darted across the lawn and into the hedgerow. It was too far away for a phone photo, but I was delighted to see it, and then by the clouds above the valley. I love these long, light midsummer evenings.
