600 kilometers is too far to drive in a day

It is even worse if you do 600 kilometres in half a day having spent so long marvelling at the buildings of Avengion.
We knew we could not get into tonight's accommodation until after six o'clock so decided to divert via Avengion to see the famous Pont. Before we even got near it we were totally bowled over by the city walls and the Popes palace as well as the old streets surrounding them . Finally went to the Pont, found we would be charged five euros each to walk on it. If course if you are on the bridge you can not get good pictures of it so we opted to walk a little way along the river to take pictures. We also found a café for an early lunch (salad nicoise) and a very welcome drink as it was oppressively hot.
Having enjoyed a leisurely meal we found the car park had disappeared, it took us about an hour to find the right entrance, making us even later starting the long trek.
The drive was easy in the end, good roads, clear apart from a traffic jam in Lyon, and very fast. Two stops, one for petrol, the other for our comfort and got to tonight's bed just before eight o'clock. We are just outside Troyes in a converted farm house. The accommodation is wonderfully old, clean and interesting. Unfortunately the lady has no English and we have no French,Google translate is wonderful, and comes over rather officious. Never mind it's only one night, the last one in France. Tomorrow night in our own bed.
