Tobermory Lifeboat Day

So I was in Tobermory for my first ever Lifeboat Day. Being on the crew I didn't see a lot of the dry land today but I did make sure I saw the raft races. The kids race was pretty good and was a great warm-up for what turned out to be a hilarious adult race. The Lifeboat Crew Raft set off at blistering speed which was unfortunately due to catching the wind so they headed out to sea - the guy on the commentary was heard to say "I think they must be away on a shout". A bit of quick dismantling (kicking bits off and piling them up on deck) and a lot of rowing meant they didn't come in last though.
The Coastguard 4xbathtub raft came in a close second to the Fire Brigade's van roof winner.
The prize for getting to the finish? Well that was a severe drenching from the Fire Brigade's "hosepipe display".
Oh, and the HWDT's raft that was being built on Friday night had some slight floatation issues meaning it was only a two person raft, and was kind of going in the right direction until it got caught in the wash of one of the safety boats and was capsized! A bit of help and it was back the right way up and crew back on-board and managed to finish. I think there will have to be some more planning put into next year's boat though.

Anyway, apart from the raft races the day went pretty well. We saw lots of visitors on the boat, there was lots to do, prizes were won and a lot of money was raised for the RNLI. All in all it was a cracking day, so thanks to all involved.
