The Way I See Things

Dull

It was a deeply dull morning, and it was blowing a hoolie, and everywhere I looked foliage was whipping around, with one or two insects grimly clinging on through the rollercoaster ride, and macro photography became an increasingly ridiculous and frustrating pastime. So I gave it up and went and made lunch instead.

After which, the sun came out - albeit briefly - and I thought I'd take the big gear and go and check the old village pond for dragons. This Broad-bodied Chaser was the only one present, but he's pretty splendid, I think, and still in great condition even though the copulation scratches on his abdomen and the fading of his shoulder stripes suggest that he's knocking on a bit - and at the end of the day, one excellent dragon is all you need. I could have done with him choosing a more photogenic perch, but to be fair to him he only had a limited choice because the field's owners have taken down most of the bankside vegetation and reprofiled the pond edge, and this pile of dead wood was one of the few vantage points left from which he could overlook the muddy, scummy water.

So, please to forgive the pancake-flat light, and muddy grey background, and horrible twiggy perch... and instead, admire the beauty of those wings, with their statement black and red markings at the bases. I hope we can all agree that they're not even slightly dull.
